Waco ISD held its first State of the District presentation Friday at the Waco Convention Center. About 200 people attended. District officials said they highlighted the district's varied offerings, shared budgetary pressures and called for community support.

According to the presentation, instruction and related services make up the largest share of the district's $179 million budget, at $123.7 million. The district said that spending is driven largely by personnel costs. Attendees took part in a activity guessing how the district spends its money, and students spelled out "Waco" in front of a light board. Superintendent Tiffany Spicer spoke with some of the students who took part in the program.
