The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a recent rise in fraud calls from people posing as law enforcement officers. Department officials said one caller used the name Sergeant Stanley.

In several reported cases, the scammers used technology to spoof the office's official phone number and address, making calls appear to come from the agency. Law enforcement officials said some scammers use artificial intelligence to imitate officers' voices and manner.

The office said legitimate agencies will never demand personal information, bank details or payments over the phone. Officials advised anyone who receives such a call to hang up if they doubt the caller, not share personal information or transfer money, and contact the office directly at a verified, publicly listed number. The office has posted audio recordings of these calls on its social media channels, including its Facebook page.
