The Briggs and Oakalla Community Fireworks Show, held each Fourth of July since 2019, may be affected by a proposed transmission line that could run through northern Burnet County. The show was started by resident Darian Stern and his wife, Joanna, after the Briggs Volunteer Fire Department shut down.

The 765-kilovolt line, proposed by energy firm Oncor, would run from Bell County to Schleicher County. One possible route, called link G31, would cut through tract 2168, where the fireworks show is held. Stern said the line's 200-foot land easements would prevent the show from continuing there.

Oncor's preliminary study described the land as "vacant, unimproved pasture." Stern disputed that description. On Oct. 18, Stern filed a request on behalf of the show with the Public Utility Commission of Texas, which is reviewing the line for approval. He asked that link G31 be removed from consideration.
