Dallas officials are asking the community for ideas on redeveloping about 40 acres of Fair Park that are now occupied by parking lots 10, 11 and 12. Park and Recreation Director John Jenkins said the empty areas could help make the 277-acre property a destination for visitors beyond major events. The city plans to open a "call for concepts" next week.

Jenkins said the city wants consistent activity at the site. He said that since Dallas took over day-to-day operations at Fair Park last year, officials have added programming, including a farmers market. He said more attractions are needed to draw people throughout the year.

The request comes as the city prepares for a groundbreaking on a long-planned community park at Fair Park, which is expected in December. Construction is planned through 2027. The park is intended to help reconnect Fair Park with nearby southern Dallas neighborhoods.
