Four Navasota police officers received the department's Life Saving Award at the Navasota City Council meeting on Oct. 26. Police Chief Mike Mize presented the awards to Officers Anthony Robbins, Denali Randle, Cory Mayo and Daniel Reyez for their actions on Oct. 11.

Mize said a 911 call came in at about 8:51 a.m. from a woman who reported falling through a glass window and cutting a major artery. Robbins and Randle were conducting a traffic stop when they heard the call and responded to the emergency. Mize said Robbins told Randle how to apply a tourniquet on the way. About four minutes after the call, the four officers arrived and found the woman losing a large amount of blood. They applied tourniquets, and a second one was needed before the bleeding slowed significantly.

The Navasota Fire Department arrived shortly after. The woman was transported by medical helicopter for emergency treatment. Mize said a letter from the treating hospital and the medic said the officers' actions were critical to the woman's survival. "Without the officers' immediate actions and application of tourniquets, this individual would not have survived," Mize said.
