Airfares at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field have risen more than 10% over the past year, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. DFW's average second-quarter fare was $496.05, up from $418.34 in the same period of 2025. Love Field's second-quarter average was $393.35, up from $342.53 last year. The bureau said it changed the share of samples it collected from U.S. airlines in the third quarter of last year. Fare data was not available for McKinney National Airport.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its latest Consumer Price Index report that airfares nationally have risen more than 23% over the past year. Economist Hayley Berg of the travel site Hopper said jet fuel is the main reason prices are up this year. Hopper's data showed the average domestic round-trip fare was $364, a 36% increase from a year earlier. Research firm Argus said jet fuel averaged $4.87 per gallon last week.
Cirium, an aviation analytics company, said economy fares from DFW and Love Field rose 28.1% between June 2025 and July 2026. Fares rose on some routes Spirit Airlines had served, including DFW to Cancun, where the economy fare was $230 from May to July, up 45% from the same period the year before. Aviation expert Henry Harteveldt said that because American and Southwest dominate both airports, they have less need to compete on price. Executives at Southwest and American said they expect fuel costs to stay high.
