The Harris County District Attorney's Office announced the indictment of ICE officer Mario Alberto Morales. He was charged with second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony under Texas law that carries 2 to 20 years in prison. The charge stems from an early October crash in northwest Harris County involving Miguel Parra Hernandez, whom Morales allegedly ran over.
At a news conference, officials showed body camera video of the incident and played a 911 call. According to officials, Morales was hired as a surge hire by ICE in August 2025. The District Attorney's Office said it has not received any training records for him.
An ICE spokesperson called the case a political stunt by Houston sanctuary politicians. The spokesperson said federal officers can only be investigated by other federal agencies and called the allegation that ICE struck Parra-Hernandez intentionally false. US Attorney Aaron Reitz's office said it was disappointed that the district attorney had not swiftly brought charges in the July Salgado shooting.
