Principals at Mendez Elementary and San Marcos High School presented improvement plans to San Marcos CISD trustees. Their goals are to raise student achievement and help more high school students graduate on time. Mendez received a D in the state accountability system for 2025-26, one of five district campuses to receive that grade.
Mendez Principal Suzanne Perkins said the campus earned an overall accountability rating of 63. Its scores were 65 for Student Achievement, 72 for School Progress and 43 for Closing the Gaps. "The results are not where our students deserve to be, and we own that," Perkins said. She said the campus aims to return to an overall B or higher. Planned steps include weekly professional learning communities, weekly administrative check-ins and a 40-minute intervention block in the master schedule. Perkins said families will be kept informed through the school year.
San Marcos High Principal Eileen Grose presented the school's plan to improve graduation rates. The plan also aims to better identify students at risk of falling off track.
