Voters across Bastrop County approved the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed drinks, in the Nov. 3 election, according to unofficial results.
Adena Lewis, the county's tourism and economic development director, said the measures were meant to align alcohol-sales boundaries. That includes areas annexed into cities or affected by changes to precinct boundaries. Some businesses could not apply for mixed-beverage licenses because of their location, even though they were near other businesses that could.
The measures passed in each of the county's four justice of the peace precincts and in the cities of Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville. Support ranged from 74.07% to 80.48%. Local officials must canvass the results between Nov. 6 and 17, according to the Texas Secretary of State. Businesses will still need permits from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission before selling alcohol.
