The Refugio Bobcats (5-3, 4-1) lost three of their first four games this season. Since then, they have won four straight and are in second place in District 16-2A. Their last win came last week, a 36-7 road victory at Skidmore-Tynan.
Senior quarterback Matthew Perez completed 13 of 17 passes for 169 yards in that game, and five Refugio receivers caught at least one pass. Senior halfback Tybari Swain ran for 107 yards on 20 carries and scored twice. Junior Nehimiah Cavasos carried eight times for 24 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcat quarterback, and he caught four passes for 53 yards.
Refugio head coach Eli Boxell said his goal since the start of the year has been to build a balanced offense. Boxell said Perez had wrist surgery earlier in the year and missed the first three games. He called it Perez's most complete game of the year. Boxell also said Perez holds his teammates accountable and that they respond to him.
