Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa will hold her first press conference in the afternoon. Public education is one issue she is expected to address.
Hinojosa has promised to fire Education Commissioner Mike Morath on her first day in office. The change could affect the state's approach to school accountability, improvement efforts and its relationship with local districts.
Hinojosa has also made halting the school voucher program a central part of her platform. The program uses taxpayer dollars to help families pay for private school tuition. Policy experts have warned that fully repealing the program requires action by the Legislature.
