Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa has asked the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to take no action on a possible transfer of about 1,300 acres of public land near SpaceX Starbase operations until she takes office in January 2027, according to local news reports.
Hinojosa said Thursday, Nov. 5, that she contacted the department's executive director that morning and confirmed the matter was not on the commission agenda, according to local news reports. A draft agenda had included discussion of the possible disposition of the land in Cameron County, near Boca Chica Beach and SpaceX launch facilities. That item was later removed from the final agenda, and no sale has been approved.
In an October campaign statement, Hinojosa opposed reports that the commission had planned a closed-door discussion of selling Boca Chica State Park land involving SpaceX. "Texas is not for sale," she said in that statement. Hinojosa did not say whether the department agreed to her request or what her administration might do after she is sworn in on Jan. 19, 2027.
