Laredo police said a man detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman on Texana Street is a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez confirmed the identity on Wednesday.

Officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 5500 block of Texana Street. A police drone pilot saw a vehicle leaving the area and alerted nearby officers, who stopped it. The 30-year-old man was detained. Officers found the woman alive inside and took her to a hospital, where she later died from multiple stab wounds.

Rodriguez said it was not yet clear what happened, but the case is being investigated as domestic violence. Officers searched the home after being told children were inside and found them unharmed. Investigators were seeking search warrants to collect blood, saliva and other evidence. No names had been released.
