A long-term plan for the 10-mile McCart Avenue corridor, which runs from Interstate 20 to Burleson, is set to be presented to the Fort Worth City Council next week. The McCart Avenue HOTT Corridor Project is part of the city's 2022 bond program.

The plan recommends real-time traffic systems, pedestrian and transit improvements, shared-use paths, fiber ducts, intersection enhancements, zoning changes for mixed-use development and park improvements. Community engagement over the last two years included more than 580 survey responses, stakeholder committees and outreach to businesses, churches, schools and residents.

City staffer Armond Bryant told the City Plan Commission on Oct. 8 that there was a general desire to transform the corridor. Bryant said the community wanted McCart Avenue to become a community destination. According to the city, the main reasons for the plan are high crash rates, gaps in sidewalk and transit access, aging commercial areas with decreased investment and fragmented land use.
