In this installment of the diary of Lt. Francis Henry French, the officer describes a quiet week at Fort Clark in October 1883. He wrote of target practice, billiards and whist, monthly muster, and paperwork for pay accounts and the Seminole muster rolls.

On October 29, French rode to Spofford Junction with ambulances and an escort wagon to meet Gen. Smith and Mrs. Bliss. He wrote that the train from San Antonio brought them, along with Mrs. Bliss's young daughter, a nurse, and two friends of Col. Bliss. French said the ride back to the post was chilly.

On October 31, muster day, French inspected and mustered the Seminoles at camp. He also watched Gen. Smith review the garrison's inspection, sitting on porches at the homes of Mrs. Hall and Col. Bliss.
