Democrat Sara McGee defeated Republican state Rep. Mike Schofield in Tuesday's general election for Texas House District 132, according to unofficial results from the Harris County Clerk's Office. McGee received 36,380 votes, or about 55%. Schofield received 29,956 votes, or about 45%. The results must be officially canvassed before they become final.

McGee, a director of radiology, is making her first run for public office. She will take office in January, when the Texas Legislature convenes in Austin on Jan. 12, 2027. Schofield, an attorney and former adviser to Gov. Rick Perry, was seeking his sixth term. He was first elected in 2014, lost his re-election bid in 2018 and regained the seat in 2020. The district covers portions of west Harris County, including the Katy area.

McGee said she was motivated to run by concerns about public education, health care and rising property taxes. She said she wants to hold a series of town hall meetings before going to Austin, including with residents who did not vote for her. In a social media post, Schofield congratulated McGee and wished her well in her service.
