Greg Abbott's campaign accused Democrat Gina Hinojosa of contradicting her message. Catherine Frazier, communications director for Texans for Greg Abbott, said in a Tuesday release that Hinojosa has campaigned on opposing billionaire and data center interests in Texas.
Campaign finance reports show J.B. Pritzker gave $200,000 on Sept. 18 and $1 million on Oct. 8. Hinojosa's campaign said on Sept. 18 that it raised more than $1 million in 36 hours and added more than 5,000 first-time donors. George Soros gave $1 million on Aug. 23, 2023, and $400,000 on Oct. 10, 2023, to a PAC. The PAC also sponsored a Sept. 4 fundraising email sent under Hinojosa's name. Jessica Livingston, a co-founder of Y Combinator, gave Hinojosa $150,000 on Oct. 21.
Hinojosa's published position calls for an immediate moratorium on new data centers until lawmakers enact protections for their development. Elon Musk gave Texans for Greg Abbott $500,000 on May 12 and $5 million on Sept. 28. The Dallas Express said it contacted Hinojosa's campaign for comment and did not receive a response.
