The Wise County Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers have opened a homicide investigation after a man was found dead along a road near Rhome on Tuesday morning. A passerby found the body along Hickory Street, east of the Rhome city limits and west of Strawberry Lane, and reported it to authorities around 6:30 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Eric Debus.
Debus said it was apparent the death was not the result of natural causes. The sheriff's office confirmed the victim was an adult man. It has not released his identity or cause of death because the investigation is ongoing. Texas Rangers joined sheriff's investigators at the scene Tuesday.
