The 2026 Celebration Week of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, called "Ayiksa Hompanka," concluded after activities held Oct. 12-16. Members of all ages took part in friendly competitions among the tribe's 10 clans, celebrating its heritage and traditions.
Events included volleyball, a pickle eating contest, an Indian taco eating contest, a tug-o-war, a turtle race, a triathlon, Gospel singing, a lip sync contest and a stickball shooting contest, among others. Points were awarded for first, second and third place in each event, and the cumulative total decided the overall winner.
The Tapassoola, or Daddy Long Legs Clan, placed first. The Kowaachosi, or Wildcat Clan, finished second, and the Fiito, or Turkey Clan, finished third. The week ended with the tribal Celebration Week dinner, followed by a State of the Nation Address from Tribal Council Chairman Ricky Sylestine.
