Gov. Greg Abbott visited Inez on Tuesday as part of his statewide get-out-the-vote tour. He spoke at Bomb Diggity about his policy positions and encouraged supporters to vote in the upcoming election.
On immigration, Abbott discussed a migrant caravan traveling through Mexico and said his administration would continue border enforcement. He said people who illegally enter Texas would face arrest. He also highlighted a state law restricting foreign adversaries from buying land in Texas, citing national security concerns involving China, Russia and Iran, and said he supports further restrictions.
Abbott said he would keep working to reduce property taxes and would oppose a state income tax. He criticized Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa's positions on taxation, including property and inheritance taxes. Abbott also discussed laws on transgender athletes in school sports, parental rights in education and voter eligibility. He said Texas elections should be limited to U.S. citizens. Local supporters at the event said they welcomed the chance to hear from the governor.
