A record number of Fayette County residents voted early in the midterm election, according to the Fayette County Elections Office. The office reported 6,650 early votes. That is higher than the previous midterm record of 6,344, set in 2018. The 2022 midterm had 5,048 early votes in the county.
The Fayette County Record said the race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico for the U.S. Senate seat from Texas is likely a major reason for the higher turnout. The seat is open after John Cornyn lost the Republican primary earlier this year. The report said the race has drawn a wave of campaign spending.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polling locations are listed in the original report.
