The Chambers County Public Hospital District No. 1 remains in good financial standing, according to recent audit results. The board reviewed the 2025 financial audit at its Thursday, Oct. 22, meeting. Blue and Co. LLC Director Tommy Davis told the board the district is a "strong entity and strong organization." The district oversees a hospital and multiple clinics.
The Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform (CHQPR) released data in July showing Texas leads the country in the number of hospitals at risk of closure. CHQPR counts 84 rural hospitals in Texas at risk, 27 of them at immediate risk. The group said more than 100 rural hospitals nationwide closed over the past decade. It said the main reason is that private insurance plans pay less than the cost of delivering care.
Davis said the district's total assets grew by $16 million from 2024 to 2025. He also said net revenue reached $6.7 million, almost double the 2024 figure. The board also discussed the rooftop air conditioning unit at West Chambers Medical Center, which has a refrigerant leak.
