Kyleigh Chavez, a senior from Granbury and a special education major, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Female Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning Oct. 26, the conference said. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel in athletics and serve their campus and community.
Chavez is a four-year member of the LeTourneau women's soccer program and has played in 27 career matches. She is president of LeTourneau's CADE (Center for Athletics Discipleship and Excellence) initiative, which helps athletes in their spiritual formation. She also held leadership roles in the school's FCA chapter during her sophomore and junior years. On campus, she has served as a student ambassador, a spiritual life assistant and a member of the Prayer and Praise team. She volunteered with the kids' ministry at Pursuit Church and led a mission trip through LeTourneau's Camp Beloved and Beyond during her junior year. She was also selected for the SCAC Academic Honor Roll last season.
Head coach Karrigan Falber said, "As a senior, Kyleigh has strongly taken the role of the spiritual leader in the locker room helping out girls and seeing them for more than soccer players. Whether it is on the field or off, her presence to the team is important."
