SAFE EP is encouraging men in Eagle Pass and Maverick County to talk openly about their mental health and seek help when needed. The effort is called the Los Hombres Sí Lloran initiative. The organization said men should not feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for assistance with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or other personal difficulties.
The organization said many men were raised to stay strong, hide their emotions and handle problems alone, and it wants to change that view. SAFE EP said emotional difficulties are not a sign of weakness and that professional help is available.
SAFE EP listed local resources, including Maverick County Hospital District Behavioral Health at (830) 757-4900, United Medical Centers at (830) 773-8917, Camino Real Community Services at (830) 498-2000, Inclusive Minds Counseling at (210) 749-5671, and MYS Counseling & Assessment at (979) 233-1584. People who need immediate emotional support can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which the group said is free, confidential and available 24 hours a day. More information is posted at epsafe.org. The group also asked families and friends to pay closer attention to the men in their lives.
