Open enrollment for the federal Health Insurance Marketplace begins Sunday, November 1, 2026, for coverage in 2027. Eagle Pass and Maverick County residents can enroll in or renew health insurance during the period.

The enrollment period is set under the Affordable Care Act. Applicants can compare plans at HealthCare.gov, review benefits and check whether they qualify for financial assistance that lowers monthly premiums. Plans can cover doctor visits, hospital care, emergency services, prescription drugs, preventive care and mental health services. Assistance depends on household income, family size and other requirements.

Premiums and available subsidies may differ from previous years. Residents are advised to review their options instead of automatically renewing existing coverage. People with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure may want to check monthly premiums, deductibles, prescription coverage and whether their doctors are in a plan's network.
