Dilley beat Taft 28-13 in district play on the road last Friday. The win kept the Wolves unbeaten in District 16-2A. Dilley also beat Refugio in the league opener, which gives the Wolves the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bobcats. Taft fell to 3-2 in district and is third in the standings.
Dilley can clinch the district championship this Friday against Freer, which is 3-2 in district. Freer has averaged 60 points per game in its three wins. Its losses were a 13-7 decision to Taft and a 16-10 loss to Refugio.
Head coach and athletic director David Silva praised his team's execution in the win over Taft. "The boys executed the game plan perfectly," he said. Silva said Freer uses many trick plays and formations, so the team is preparing for the unexpected. He said the Wolves plan to bring their running game for all four quarters.
