A Tarrant County jury found Eduardo Gonzalez guilty on five counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. The crash on August 19, 2024, on I-35W in Fort Worth killed three children and two adults. Gonzalez was 19 at the time and was driving a Chevrolet Camaro.

Gonzalez was sentenced to 17 years in prison on each count. The sentences for the children will run consecutively and the sentences for the adults will run concurrently, for a total of 68 years. The jury also imposed a $50,000 fine.

The victims were Willie Gunn, 48; Amber Hopewell, 38; and Hopewell's children Elijah Carroll, 9, Chrystale Cobbin, 4, and Amiyah Fisher, 2. Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells said no sentence can restore those lives. He thanked prosecutors, investigators and Fort Worth police.
