Cushing clinched a playoff spot with a 22-6 win over Cross Roads on Friday night at J.F. Whitaker Stadium. The Bearkats, ranked 14th in the bEASTTexas Fabulous 15 Poll, improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in district play. The win was the program's seventh playoff berth in school history and its first since 2022.
Cushing has won eight games in a season only three other times in school history: 1996, 1997 and 2022. Head coach Josh Moore previously led the team from 2018 to 2023. A ninth win would be the first in school history, the report said.
Cushing has one regular-season game left, next Friday at No. 9 Overton at 7 p.m. Overton, at 8-1 overall and 5-0 in district, is in first place in District 11-2A DII. Cushing moved into a second-place tie with Grapeland, which was idle. Tenaha has clinched fourth place, so four postseason spots from the district are secured.
