The Salvation Army is asking the community to help fill gaps in its Thanksgiving meal drive. The group said it plans to serve up to 450 to 500 people this holiday but still needs donations to do so.

The Salvation Army said it needs 35 turkeys, 60 containers of 32-ounce chicken broth, 25 large cans of corn and green beans, and ready-to-serve pies and rolls. The meals are planned to include turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, corn, dessert and a beverage.

Teresa Harden, kitchen supervisor for the Salvation Army, said the group is also coordinating volunteers to prepare the turkeys. She said the need for Thanksgiving meals remains high each year and that many people who come in are grateful for a holiday meal.

Donations can be dropped off at 1726 Butternut St. in Abilene.
