Kyle Kacal was elected Brazos County judge. He ran unopposed in the general election. Current County Judge Duane Peters retires Dec. 1 after 34 years of service.

Kacal said his first priority is helping county departments and employees do their jobs. He said he is proud of the county's workforce and thanked voters for their confidence. He also thanked Peters for the faith he showed in him.

Kacal won the Republican primary on March 3, defeating former Bryan City Councilman Mike Southerland, with more than 62% of the vote, according to earlier reporting. He served six terms in the Texas House and was interim county judge for six months while Peters took time away from the job for health reasons. During the campaign, he listed a county master plan with partners, keeping property taxes low, employee compensation and departmental efficiency as priorities. He said his relationships with state lawmakers would help the county when the Texas Legislature reconvenes in January 2027.
