A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years of probation and must register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to sexual assault of a minor in Smith County. Maurese Emmanuel Johnson appeared for sentencing Tuesday morning in the courtroom of Judge Taylor Heaton, according to KLTV.

According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson was arrested on Jan. 22. The affidavit says Department of Public Safety personnel found a Tyler police case file about Johnson while they were investigating a separate sexual assault involving Johnson's victim. The affidavit also says DPS investigated multiple Snapchat accounts linked to Johnson after the minor identified him in a photo lineup.

Under the terms of his probation, Johnson is not allowed to contact the victim.
