Students from the College of Business Administration at Texas A&M University-Kingsville will offer free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program starting Tuesday, Feb. 3. Taxpayers can choose virtual service, curbside drop-off or in-person preparation in Room 107 of the Business Administration Building. The service is free for households with income under $67,000.

To arrange virtual or drop-off service, taxpayers can email VITA@tamuk.edu or visit Room 107 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, April 15. The office will be closed for Spring Break, March 16 to March 20. In-person visitors are helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dr. Thomas Krueger, chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance, said students can help with most personal income tax returns, including those for retirees and filers with Earned Income or child credits. He said students can also help international students on F1 visas. Krueger said the VITA grants pay for student interns, so staff can be available at set hours without relying on volunteers.
