Mineola High School's Sound of the Swarm took first place at the UIL Class 3A Area C marching contest on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Whitehouse. The band will compete at the UIL State Marching Band Championships on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Students said the season included difficult music, long rehearsals and back-to-back football games and competitions. Freshman Jackson Snook said memorizing the music was especially hard. Band members also said they adjusted to a new head band director this season.
Head drum major Jarezi Delgadillo said the team was excited and grateful for the chance to return to state. Senior Daysen Cook said it was his final year with the band. This year's show is called "What Lies Beneath."
