San Antonio police identified Luke Perez, 20, as the man arrested in connection with a suspected road rage shooting Tuesday evening in a South Side shopping center parking lot. Police said he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The shooting happened around 5 p.m. near Southwest Military Drive and South Zarzamora Street. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said Perez and the victim had gotten out of their vehicles when Perez allegedly pulled out a gun and fired. The victim was struck in the torso, and gunfire also hit the victim's vehicle. Police first described the shooting as a possible road rage incident involving three vehicles, and said one vehicle had been crashing into another before the shooting.

Alicia Alvarado, who was inside a business across the street, said a woman ran in asking for help. Alvarado said the wounded man was holding his chest while the woman tried to stop the bleeding. She also said the violence has left some customers afraid to return to the shopping center.

Perez is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Police have not released more details about what led to the confrontation.
