About 6,000 runners and walkers are expected at the 24th annual Katy YMCA Turkey Dash on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26. Organizers said they are preparing for a record turnout after 5,487 people took part in 2025. The race starts at the Monty Ballard YMCA at Cinco Ranch, 22807 Westheimer Parkway.

The event includes a timed 10K run, a timed 5K run and walk, and two 1-mile events for children and families. All finishers will receive commemorative medals. The Turkey Tailgate opens at 7 a.m. with live music, entertainment, local businesses, community groups, giveaways and a children's activity area. The celebration is open to the public, including people who are not racing.

The YMCA said the race has raised more than $3.5 million for the Katy Area YMCAs over its history. The money supports the Annual Campaign, which helps individuals and families who could not otherwise afford YMCA programs. Those programs include swimming lessons, youth sports, summer camps and senior activities.

Parking is available across the street at The Fellowship and the Villagio Town Center parking garage. A free shuttle will run from the Super Target parking lot at 23710 Westheimer Parkway from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Motorists should expect temporary traffic restrictions along the race routes, with roads scheduled to begin reopening at 10 a.m. Registration closes Nov. 25 at 11:59 p.m., and there is no race-day registration.
