South Texas Health System is urging Rio Grande Valley residents to take steps to protect themselves and those they love as flu activity rises.

Health experts are closely watching rising influenza activity across the country. As of October 21, influenza cases were increasing or expected to increase in 44 states, including Texas, according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
