A former Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps instructor at a Prosper ISD high school was convicted of indecent assault, Collin County prosecutors announced Tuesday. A jury found Michael Christopher Songy, 44, of Frisco, guilty of the Class A misdemeanor, according to District Attorney Greg Willis.
Prosecutors said Songy had been the student's JROTC instructor at Rock Hill High School for two years. They said the assault happened a week before graduation, when he hugged her while the two were alone in a classroom supply closet and then touched her beneath her shirt. The district attorney's office said he later gave her a sticky note with his phone number. The student reported the incident to a teacher, and Prosper ISD police investigated. Prosecutors said investigators recovered the note, along with phone and computer evidence, including a message Songy sent the next day asking her to return to his classroom.
Songy's 2025 arrest was among several incidents involving Prosper ISD employees cited in a March lawsuit that seeks to remove five school board trustees. The lawsuit alleges the trustees failed to address administrative problems involving sexual abuse. The district has disputed the lawsuit's allegations and called the complaint politically motivated. "Holding adults accountable when they violate the trust placed in them by students is important, and that is what the jury did here," Willis said. Under Texas law, indecent assault is punishable by up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $4,000 or both. Judge David Waddill is scheduled to determine Songy's punishment on Nov. 12.
