Maverick County had the lowest early voting turnout among six South Texas counties during the first nine days of early voting for the November 3, 2026 General Election, according to a study by the Eagle Pass Business Journal. Figures compiled through Tuesday, October 27, show 6,813 ballots cast from 37,239 registered voters in Maverick County, a participation rate of 18.30 percent.
Kinney County led the group with 40.14 percent. Val Verde County recorded 23.62 percent, Zavala County 22.86 percent, Webb County 21.90 percent and Dimmit County 19.90 percent. Across the six counties, 50,987 ballots were cast from 234,931 registered voters, an overall rate of 21.70 percent. Maverick County was 3.40 percentage points below that average.
The Business Journal wrote that the figures raise questions about whether turnout affects the attention a community receives from federal and state elected officials on issues such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic development.
