Republican Heather Henigan kept her seat as Harrison County clerk, and Democrat Zephaniah Timmins kept his Pct. 2 commissioner seat, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's election. Henigan was first appointed to the position. She received 71.7%, or 16,921 votes, to 28.3%, or 6,680 votes, for Democratic challenger LeaShondria Harden.
Timmins received 58.61%, or 2,468 votes, to 41.39%, or 1,743 votes, for Republican challenger Chad Graff. Henigan and Timmins also led in early voting and absentee ballots.
Timmins thanked supporters after his win. He said the court is known for working well together for residents' best interests. He said his goal is to "govern in love" and that his main plan for another term is to hold state lawmakers' "feet to the fire" to benefit counties. He pointed to the county's approval this year of a nearly 2-cent property tax rate increase, mainly because of unfunded state mandates.
