Gonzales defeated Pearsall 62-22 in district play at Mack Laxson Field, according to the Frio-Nueces Current. Gonzales led 21-14 early in a back-and-forth first half and took a 28-14 lead after a blocked punt. Pearsall later recovered a punt at the Gonzales 38-yard line.
Pearsall appeared to cut the lead to 28-20 on a touchdown, but an ineligible player downfield penalty wiped out the score. Gonzales went into halftime leading by 14 and pulled away after the break.
Pearsall Head Coach Steven Hernandez said the called-back touchdown was a big momentum swing. He said his young team responded when Gonzales scored, and he said the players are showing maturity as the season goes on.
