Uvalde residents can now submit written input on the design of a permanent memorial at the downtown plaza for those killed in the Robb Elementary School shooting, according to City Secretary Clarissa Rodriguez. Input may be mailed or delivered in person to the city hall administrative office and must be received between Sept. 28 and Nov. 2. Accepted submissions include ideas, drawings, concepts, sketches and other visions for the plaza.

The memorial is part of a 2025 settlement between the city and affected families. Until the city announced the public input period, the memorial had been largely left to a seven-member memorial committee created last September. The committee includes three parents of victims, a business owner, a church pastor, a real estate agent and Councilman Chip King as the city representative. Under the council-approved arrangement, the committee will consider and recommend the design and location, and the council will give final approval.

The committee's closed sessions have also drawn discussion at city council meetings and are part of a public records request for meeting minutes. For more information, residents can call Rodriguez at 830-278-3315, ext. 142.
