Dallas police arrested Isaiah Brazil, 23, on Tuesday and charged him with murder in the death of Samarius Johnson, 28. Police said Brazil shot Johnson, who had tried to break up a fight between Brazil and his girlfriend. Officers responded to a shooting just after 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at The Anderson Apartments in the 3700 block of South Tyler Street. Dallas Fire-Rescue found Johnson dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson went up the stairs to the woman's apartment to confront Brazil about the fight. The woman told Johnson not to get involved and shut the door. When the door opened again, Brazil stepped outside with a handgun and shot Johnson multiple times, officials said. Johnson jumped over a stair railing and crawled to the area where officers later found him.

Witnesses first knew the suspect only as "Zay." Detectives said they identified Brazil using a phone number, an online account and information from an anonymous caller, along with a law enforcement database.
