A driver hit a Mesquite Fire Department blocker truck early Friday, according to Mesquite police. The blocker truck is a retired fire engine. It was in place to protect firefighters and equipment at the scene of an earlier crash on westbound I-30 at Northwest Drive, which police said happened around 2:30 a.m.

Around 3 a.m., a sports car hit the blocker truck. Paramedics took the driver to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Police and firefighters were not hurt.

The two crashes led authorities to close the westbound lanes of I-30. As of 5 a.m., traffic was backed up beyond the Broadway and Belt Line interchange and was continuing to build toward the President George Bush Turnpike.
