The First Methodist Church Harlingen Pumpkin Patch is open for the fall season. Families pick out pumpkins, play beanbag cornhole, sit on hay bales in front of red barns for photos and take turns on slides and in passageways. Sara Lopez said she and her daughter Kendra were choosing pumpkins to carve for Jack-O-Lanterns.

Ralph Rodriguez, Kendra's father, said his family drove from Combes and has come to the patch every year since Kendra was born. He said he liked how peaceful it was.

Pastor Ben Huebner said the church has run the pumpkin patch as a fundraiser for many years and that the money supports the church's preschool. He said the church received 40,000 pounds of pumpkins from New Mexico and the Navajo Nation. Huebner also said the purchase creates 700 jobs for the Navajo each year.
