The 47th Annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner is preparing to serve San Antonio residents a free holiday meal, with entertainment and community fellowship. The event faces rising food costs and declining sponsorships, according to the organizers' announcement.
Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones joined Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner President and CEO Patricia Jimenez and community partners on Tuesday to announce preparations and open volunteer registration. Registration opened at 1 p.m. and will stay open until capacity is reached. Volunteers can sign up online at rauljimenezdinner.com/volunteer.
The dinner will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 900 E. Market St., with a goal of serving 25,000 meals. Doors open at 9 a.m., followed by an all-faith worship service at 10 a.m. Food service, live entertainment and dancing run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Residents who cannot attend in person can call 211 and select option 1 to ask about home meal delivery.
