The No. 1 ranked Shiner Comanches football team has no game this week. Head coach Daniel Boedeker said the break lets the team focus on technique, fundamentals and other areas it needs to improve.
Shiner finished the regular season 10-0 and 6-0 in District 15-2A DI. The team has outscored its opponents 316-45, an average margin of 27.1 points per game. The team's offense relies on its running game and passing game, and its defense forces turnovers. Boedeker said the team plays with a fast and physical mindset.
Sophomore Levi Werner is in his first year as the starting quarterback and has started every game this season. Last year's starter, Jarvis Williams, now plays at the Class 4A level for Cuero High. In last week's 56-19 win over Kenedy, Shiner gained 326 rushing yards on 39 attempts.
