Joe Wayne Reynolds marched with the Quitman Proud Blue Band at the state marching contest in Austin in 1986. He graduated from Quitman High School in 1990. His son, Evan Reynolds, will march with the band Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, 40 years after his father's trip.
Evan said he was overwhelmed with joy, shock and pride when Quitman's name was announced among the state qualifiers at Saturday's area competition. He said the band faced absences, illnesses and injuries this season. He credited band director Michael Barron and the students' determination for helping them reach state.
Joe Wayne said he is proud of Evan's work in the band program, which Evan has taken part in since sixth grade. Evan said the band's teamwork helped it improve with each performance.
