Westley Lamar Navarrete, 35, was arrested in the Loma Bonita area of Maverick County on or before Oct. 26, 2026, after a glass pipe was reported concealed on him during a pat-down by a sheriff's deputy, according to other local news sources. Those sources said the deputy was assigned to Operation Stonegarden and named Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber. They described the matter as a misdemeanor without giving the specific charge. Navarrete was taken to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
The Maverick County Sheriff's Office says Stonegarden is a federal program that reimburses the office for deputy overtime. No information has been published about what the pipe may have contained. No bond amount, magistration hearing or court date has been reported.
The sheriff's office has not released a statement on the arrest. The Maverick Times could not independently confirm the details with the office. The allegations are accusations, and Navarrete is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
