Dr. Julie Bazan, executive director of the Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education Center, announced a Mass honoring veterans, their families and people who sacrificed alongside them. It will be held at the cathedral at 201 San Westin Avenue in downtown Laredo. A reception will follow at the American Legion, across the street.

Bazan said organizers have held the Mass since 2018 for community members who prefer not to attend outdoor events. She said praying for veterans and their families is important. Bazan also thanked the current bishop and the past bishop for supporting the Mass, and said the past bishop is a veteran.

The Mass is part of a series of Veterans Day events that also includes a parade and events at schools and across the city. The parade will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, and will start at St. Peter's Plaza, with lineup at 9:30 a.m. Veterans will ride on a special float, and a ceremony will follow. Bazan said community members and agencies worked together to organize the events.
