The first concrete pier for the Kim & Dade Phelan Behavioral Sciences Center was poured Tuesday afternoon in Beaumont, with State Rep. Dade Phelan taking part. The facility, on Fannin Street, will add to the services offered by Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.
The project adds 62,840 square feet and 36 new patient rooms, creating a three-story treatment hospital of 94,000 square feet, according to the story. H.B. Neild Construction is the general contractor. The company's CEO, Taylor Neild Sr., said the firm's family built the original Beaumont Neurological Center, which opened in 1966. He said safety is the most important concern, and that work will continue without interrupting current services.
Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas CEO David LeMonte thanked Phelan for his role in securing $70 million in state funding for the project, the story said.
